Character Background

• History: Here
• Core Relationships:
  • Cassandra Kiramman (Mother): Caitlyn's most developed and prominent relationship is that with her mother. From an early age it was her mother that drove Caitlyn to excel and has set high expectations for her daughter. A member of the council that runs Piltover, she hopes and dreams of Caitlyn eventually following in her steps and becoming interested in politics. Cassandra used her wealth and influence to ensure that Caitlyn earned prestige in school and in competition, going so far as to possibly pay off competitors to allow Caitlyn to win; as seen in her discussion with Captain Grayson. Cassandra uses her position and influence in the council to try and protect Caitlyn and keep her safe, trying to shelter her from the world and hard truths of the world, while trying to get her to accept a role as an elite of Piltover and someone above the troubles of the Undercity.

  • Tobias Kiramman (Father): Caitlyn's father does little to dissuade Caitlyn's mother, and seems compliant if not cooperative with his wife's plans. When Caitlyn continues to refuse to comply with her parents' plans and becomes involved with the undercity he scolds her. ""You're a Councilor's daughter. Your actions reflect on the entire body." Showing that while he is worried for her safety, he is just as worried about the damage to their family name that she may cause with her continued actions and involvement with Vi and the problems of Zaun.

  • Captain Grayson : The captain was the first person to actually think about what she wanted in life. What drove her to continue competing and improving herself and where she wanted to aim. It was Captain Grayson who gave Caitlyn the idea of becoming an enforcer. The older woman showed her that she could use her exceptional skill with a rifle to protect people and bring about justice and change to the city of Piltover. "Begs the question, young Kiramman. What are you shooting for?"

  • Jayce Talis : Jayce Talis, the child from a lower house that somehow managed to make it to the top. From an early age, Jayce impressed the Kiramman family with his intellect, as such, he became a friend and close companion to Caitlyn. To her they both seemed to be outcasts; Caitlyn not fitting in among the upper household kids with her sense of justice and interest in helping others, and Jayce for the way he viewed the world. Jayce helped Caitlyn to develop her intellect and wit, as well as develop a keen eye and paying attention to detail. Together they form a close and deep friendship in which each of them knows they can ask anything and rely on the other without question.

  • Vi: Vi was the person to open Caitlyn's eyes to the full truth of the world, and how bad things really were. Vi pulled Caitlyn from the idealistic and optimistic worldview where not everyone did the right thing and often did not help without ulterior motives or personal gain. It is Vi who shows Caitlyn that within the undercity there is good, and at the same time that the council and the enforcers are not beyond reproach. Vi helps Caitlyn to define her own sense of Justice and helps her to develop a newly expanded worldview beyond what her affluent life provided. Allowing a chance for Caitlyn to see what life is like for those who have nothing, and might be driven to break the law out of necessity rather than malice.

  • Jinx: Where Caitlyn learned to trust and compassion from her time with Vi, and to not judge from a higher position. Jinx is a case that has taught Caitlyn that there are some that are beyond hope, Caitlyn realizes just how dangerous Jinx is, and that her hesitation to take Jinx out is what cost her everything. Jinx challenges Caitlyn's ideal of Justice; that providing a fair trial and chance at rehabilitation and restitution is not always an option. Jinx presents a problem in that not everything can be logical or make sense, and some things will be beyond reason and comprehension. Jinx is the embodiment of the chaos in the world that will stand and go against the order that Caitlyn enjoys.

  • Captain Marcus: Marcus is the one who opens Caitlyn's eyes to just how bad and deep the corruption of Piltover is. She had always come into conflict with him over her assignments, which she had assumed was simply her mother's doing and overprotective nature. However, on the bridge as she tries to return the hextech, she realizes the truth that there are those who are supposed to uphold the law who ignore it. It is with Marcus' betrayal she realizes how far Silco has managed to expand his influence. Causing her to question her loyalty to Piltover, the enforcers, and everything she believed in about the city of progress, this Captain serves as the foil for Greyson.

  • Character Personality Through Key Moments

    (2+) Positive Experiences:
  • Winning Shooting Competition: In winning the shooting championship as a child, at first Caitlyn felt robbed believing that Captain Grayson was paid off by her parents to let her win. Afraid that she wasn't able to prove herself because of her mom's interference. But instead, Grayson speaks with Caitlyn briefly, asking her what she's shooting for and giving her a path to follow that is her own. This interaction between herself and Grayson would be the development of her sense of Justice and set her on the path to becoming an Enforcer, someone that would uphold the law and protect Justice.

  • Releasing Vi: Her sense of justice and dedication to proving herself is further proven in her actions toward freeing Vi and investigating the Undercity. Despite being told to leave it alone, she utilizes her friendship with Jayce to get Vi released though she did not entirely trust her at first. But by following Vi and becoming exposed to the truth of the underground Caitlyn learns to trust her just as she would any other, even after Vi attempts to ditch her for her own personal goals. This allows them to become closer and to trust one another and work together properly as equals. Demonstrating Caitlyn's willingness to overcome perceived notions and appearances to get to the core of who the person is. As demonstrated by how quickly she's also able to accept help from Ekko and the fireflies after finding out what it is that they're fighting for.

  • (2+) Negative Experiences:
  • Council Refuses to Help: While Caitlyn's worldview is expanded by her encounter with Vi, Ekko, and the residents of the Undercity. Her view of Piltover and the council is shattered by the betrayal from Marcus when she tried returning the Hextech, and further more when the Council refused to listen to Vi and Caitlyn's warning. Choosing to not become involved or take action against Zaun. Continuing the laissez-faire policy that had polarized the two communities for so long. This was the breaking point for her hope for the city and for the relationship between herself and Vi, with the other pulling out the line that they are like Piltover and Zaun, oil and water, and that there was no hope of the two mixing or coexisting. While she had always bucked against the system, this was the first time she had been fully let down and disillusioned with the council. It was the first time that she doubted the foundation and ideals of Piltover. Questioning her mother's judgment, Jayce, all of the council. This revealed the depth to which she was willing to believe in the system she had grown up with, but also the realization that it was not perfect and that there are problems to be fixed in both cities.

  • Last Supper: This scene goes to show Caitlyn's limits. While she had the perfect chance to take Jinx out with the pull of a Trigger, Caitlyn sought to do the right thing and take her in, unable to shoot her in front of Vi and still believing that she would be able to take Jinx into custody. It also goes to show how close her relationship to Vi had progressed in the way that she looks at Vi, and what she is willing to chance to keep Vi safe and from having to leave with Jinx on her own. However, when Jinx takes everything from her, and Caitlyn believes that her family and friends have been killed in the attack that she failed to stop Jinx from launching she realizes there is no reasoning with the other. That Jinx is a lost cause and beyond help. In sound clips for the next season, she can be heard telling Vi that she can't be the one to go after Jinx because if Caitlyn goes after Jinx, one of them will die. Instead, she relies on Vi, leaning on her for support as the world crumbles, the two supporting one another in their darkest hour.

    • Omen: Hawk
    • Blessed Day: January 02
    • Patron Pthumerian: Madam Generosity
    • Blood Power Manifestation: Prophetic visions of a few seconds when in danger, dream walking, overwhelming empathy.
